Our Mission
Rock n Roll Retreat NYC! is a small music mentorship and social justice summer program aimed at empowering girls and trans youth living in New York City. Our programming is a week-long intensive where youth take workshops, learn instruments, and write original songs, culminating in a showcase where campers perform for their communities. We work to engage our communities and center youth of color (specifically Black and/or indigenous youth), trans youth, disabled youth, and low-income youth. Our curriculum includes basic instrument and songwriting instructions, arts and crafts, and social justice education. All our programming includes a strong focus on collaboration. Though music is our chosen medium, our goal is not to make children better musicians, but rather to make them compassionate, empowered citizens of the world with a strong sense of justice. At Rock n Roll Retreat, we center values of community, fairness, liberation, and cultivating “joy as a revolutionary force”. Our volunteers and campers aim to create a braver world through music mentorship, songwriting, and radical joy.

Rock n Roll Retreat NYC! es una tutoría músical del programa justicia social de verano apuntado a empoderar las niñas y juventud transgénero viviendo en Nueva York. Nuestra programación es una semana donde la juventud toma tallers, aprender instrumentos, y escribir canciones originales, culminando en un escaparate donde los integrantes muestran lo aprendido a sus comunidades. Nosotros trabajamos para atraer a nuestra comunidad y centrar juventud de color (específicamente juventud indígena y/o negra), juventud transgénero, jóvenes discapacitados, y jóvenes de bajos ingresos. Nuestro currículum es básico incluye instrucciones de instrumento y composición, artes y oficios, y la educación de la justicia social. Toda nuestra programación incluye un fuerte enfoque en la colaboración. Aunque la música es nuestro medio elegido, nuestro objetivo no es hacer que los niños sean mejores músicos, sino más bien hacerlos compasivos, empoderados ciudadanos del mundo con un sentido fuerte de justicia. En Rock n Roll Retreat, nosotros centramos los valores de la comunidad, la justicia, liberación, y cultivamos la “alegría como un fuerza revolucionaria”. Nuestro voluntarios y campistas tienen como objetivo crear un mundo más valiente a través de la tutoría musical, composición, y alegría radical.
